I am so thankful that you have chosen to join us on this journey. Over the next 40 days we are going to be looking at God’s Word and letting it guide our prayer. We believe that God has big things in store for SBC. God is going to use these next 40 days to challenge us and lead us to be a more faithful church. I hope that you will be prayerful and pray for big things!
Read: Acts 8
In Acts 8 we see a few different things. We see Saul seeking to destroy the church. Overseeing the stoning of Stephen and trying to arrest men and women of the church. We also see Philip and some of his ministry. We see how he shares the Gospel with an entire town and even a magician from the town believes. He sees how the Apostles lay hands on people and they receive the Holy Spirit. Because of this the magician wants to be able to do those things, he wants to have that power. Because of this Peter calls him out on it. He says that his heart is not right before God. The question that I ponder as how are our hearts? Have we wanted to do something or have something with the wrong hearts? I know that I have. Peter goes right after him with this, “Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.” Friends, we need to be constantly searching our hearts motivations, we need to be constantly seeking repentance.
Today, I want you to do something that I have found very beneficial to my walk with the Lord. Take time today and do some evaluation. I’ve found by looking at different aspects of my life, or different wants and asking certain questions allow me to evaluate my own heart.
1. What do I want to see accomplished?
2. Who do I want to get the credit?
3. What if it happens by someone else?
4. What emotion would I feel if someone else made this happen?
These questions have allowed me to really know my motivations. Am I being kingdom focused or me focused?
Pray that your motivations would be for the glory of the Lord.
