Day Seventeen

40 Days of Prayer.

I am so thankful that you have chosen to join us on this journey. Over the next 40 days we are going to be looking at God’s Word and letting it guide our prayer. We believe that God has big things in store for SBC. God is going to use these next 40 days to challenge us and lead us to be a more faithful church. I hope that you will be prayerful and pray for big things!

Read: John 15

John 15 is an amazing dialogue between Jesus and His disciples. Here we see Jesus telling His followers that they are to abide in Him. Using the imagery of a vine and branches. With gardening season coming up, this imagery should be all the more impactful to us.

Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. – John 15:2

Does your life consist of bearing fruit? Are you a fruit bearing Christian? Those who bear fruit will be pruned to bear more fruit. Those who do not bear fruit are taken away, they are dead branches. So the question that we ask and must ask is, how do I bear fruit? Jesus gives us that answer.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:4-5

We bear fruit by abiding in Christ. Walking with the Lord. Spending time in His Word and letting His Word transform us. Spending time in prayer. And doing the commands of Christ. Are you bearing fruit? Are you abiding in Christ?

Adoration– Praise God for speaking to us His truth. Praise Him for His Word, living and active. His Word that transforms us!

Confession- Confess to Him where you fail to bear fruit. Confess to Him where you do not abide in Him. Confess to Him your sinfulness. Walk with Him.

Thanksgiving- Thank God for those who help you to walk with the Lord. Thank those who lead you to abide in Christ. Thank God for Christian fellowship.

Supplication- Pray for spiritual fruit. Pray that you would abide in Christ and bear much fruit. Pray that you would show the love of Christ to your lost sheep. Pray that they would be moved to trust in Christ.

I am praying for you!

Aaron
