40 Days of Prayer.
I am so thankful that you have chosen to join us on this journey. Over the next 40 days we are going to be looking at God’s Word and letting it guide our prayer. We believe that God has big things in store for SBC. God is going to use these next 40 days to challenge us and lead us to be a more faithful church. I hope that you will be prayerful and pray for big things!
Read: John 14
As we continue our 40 days of prayer we continue to look at the Gospel of John. I have been amazed at how God’s Word continues to speak to us during these times. God’s Word continues to give us great hope. In John 14 Jesus makes very strong statements that reveal great truth about our faith. There are a couple things I want to examine with you that should impact your prayer life.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Jesus makes a bold statement here. This statement is a statement of exclusivity. This statement says that Jesus alone is the way to the Father. There is no other way to the Father. There are no back doors, there are no windows, side entrances, etc. Jesus says that He is the only way. In the past few chapters He has been telling the Jews that He is the truth, that He does only what His Father tells Him to do. That eternal life is found in Him. All of Jesus teaching and life is summed up in this statement. Jesus is the way, the only way. Jesus is the Truth, the absolute truth. Jesus is Life, eternal Life. This should impact every aspect of our lives. This should give you tremendous burden and hope.
John 14:15-16 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”
First, if you claim to be a Jesus follower then your hearts desire will be to obey Him. As Jesus followers our desire is to be more like Jesus and to do as He commanded. We want to love others, serve others, and humble ourselves. This is the example that Jesus gave us. But we can not do this on our own, it is impossible. Therefore, Jesus sent us a Helper, the Holy Spirit. The one that awakens us from death, the one that convicts us of sin, the one that leads us to understand God’s Word and apply it. The one that prays on our behalf. We have such a great gift in possessing the Holy Spirit.
These great truths should bring us to our knees. These great truths should impact our lives. Let it lead us to prayer.
Adoration– Praise God for revealing the great truth to you. Praise Him for showing you great mercy and grace. Praise Him for sending the Helper.
Confession- Confess to the Him when you fail to obey His commandments. Confess to Him your pride and your struggles. Confess to Him your sins. Confess because He is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you!
Thanksgiving- Thank God for giving you the Holy Spirit! Thank Him for showing you and revealing to you in His Word the way of obedience. Thank Him for the great gift you have!
Supplication- Pray for your lost sheep to believe in the only way to Salvation. Pray for a burden to share with the this great news! Pray that their hearts would be awakened by the Holy Spirit. Pray that they would trust in the only truth, only life, and only way.
I am praying for you!
