I am so thankful that you have chosen to join us on this journey. Over the next 40 days we are going to be looking at God’s Word and letting it guide our prayer. We believe that God has big things in store for SBC. God is going to use these next 40 days to challenge us and lead us to be a more faithful church. I hope that you will be prayerful and pray for big things!
Read: John 6
We are now in the text that we have covered this past weekend and one that we will continue in this weekend. John 6 has strong language from Jesus to the Jews. We see it beginning by feeding of 5,000. In that miracle we see Jesus provide food for people who were not necessarily used to having their fill. This sparked them to want Jesus to be their king and always provide food for them. That Jesus would always fill them. They looked to the physical filling. How many people are in our lives today that all they are concerned with is their physical filling. They go day to day thinking about their physical wants and desires. Our culture is consumed with it. Social media, smart phones, order food and don’t wait, next day prime shipping, you name it. We are making our world more and more instant. We go today thinking only of our physical wants and desires. Jesus when confronted with this responds to the spiritual.
John 6:27 “Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on Him God the Father has set His seal.”
We have a culture that is pursing food and things that perish. This has crept into the church as well. We often pursue our own wants and desires above pursuing the Lord. If you want to make an impact on your lost sheep. It will start with your pursuit of the Lord. Do you prize Jesus the most? Are you longing for the food that never perishes? Many people see our lives and we look just like them. Let today’s word be a heart check for you. The reason why you might not be happy, the reason why you might not be making a difference, the reason may be that you are not loving Jesus the most. You may love “you” the most. As believers we are to prize Him.
“Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” Westminister Catechism
Adoration– Praise God for giving you spiritual food. Food that will endure forever. Praise Him for loving you so much to offer such food to you.
Confession- Confess to Him your heart. Be honest to God about your ultimate desires. He knows your heart. Confess your greatest pursuit. Confess your lack of love for Him and your idol for self. This is something we must do daily.
Thanksgiving- Be thankful that God has provided for you. He has provided your physical needs as well as your spiritual needs. God wants you to pursue Him. He is not hidden from you. Be thankful that you serve a God that loves you and wants relationship with you.
Supplication- Pray that SBC would continue to strive to be faithful to God’s Word. Pray that we would treasure Jesus more. Pray that we would seek Him first. Pray that God’s Word would be our ultimate authority and guide. Pray that we will be faithful to Him and leading others to pursue Him more.
Thank you again.
